The changes brought by the tram have started to appear in Beeston West. Two terraces of shops and homes on the south side of Chilwell Road are now boarded up and await demolition. Familiar old things are disappearing.
But in their place new businesses and new life is rising. Mike Gamble at Crossplay Music who has moved his shop just across the road tells me his trade is keeping up and that his shiny new shop-front is attracting a lot of interest.
Beeston Mini Market is also looking smart and spruce in its new location opposite the old site which is now awaiting imminent demolition.
